Gasping For Air

Each time you open a book and read it,
A tree smiles knowing there’s life after death.

This quote always reminded me of how fickle a thing life is.
It can slip through your fingers in an instant.
It leaves you barely grasping at its fraying edges.
And sometimes, all you want to do is let go.
Fall. Fly. Be free.

But I realized that books were there for a reason.
They are there for those of us who desperately need to lose themselves for at least a little while.
I didn’t know you could drown in books.
But then, here I am, willing to die in its swirling waters
Every time I leave the story and a part of my soul behind,
(Yes, like Voldemort)
I get sucked into the vortex of another world, another tale, another dream.

Maybe the reason why, is that the life I am actually in seems so insignificant in contrast with the others I’ve lived.

Maybe, that’s why…
